So what’s the situation here? That’s one question: Why isn’t Viagra approved to treat impotence?

“So it’s important to note that there’s no evidence that Viagra is a good medication for everyone,” says Dr. John P. Weimer, a urologist at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in New Orleans. “There’s no clear way to determine whether Viagra is the right medication for people with erectile dysfunction.”
Viagra is one of the three new drugs approved by the FDA to treat impotence. But PDE5 inhibitors — including Viagra and Cialis — are also approved to treat erectile dysfunction. But they haven’t been approved to treat impotence because the FDA isn’t clear about how much to prescribe.
“It’s kind of like a two-way street,” says Dr. William J. Gagnon, a urologist at the Cleveland Clinic.
“The FDA doesn’t have a clear way to determine whether people who have erectile dysfunction are having trouble getting erections.”
So it makes more sense that PDE5 inhibitors, including Viagra, are better for treating erectile dysfunction than Viagra?
